LOT23 is proud to be presenting a very special exhibition of Edward Mackenzie, to celebrate the launch of his iconographic 1980 Ata series and to showcase assemblages through which he honors Aotearoa.
Celebrated artist Edward Mackenzie presents his iconographic Ata series which is available in limited numbers for the first time to the public. As well as highlighting a universal graphic language of pattern, line and colour, the designs are a study of something inherently familiar to the viewer, embracing our national identity. Playful tessellations weave diamonds, sharks-teeth checkers and visual trickery to entice and excite. Mackenzie’s hand is evident in every line and corner, celebrating the materiality of the two dimensional surface as an object in itself.
We extend the opportunity to you to visit the collection and see how these works from the 1980’s have given rise to Mackenzie’s visual language for a significant lifetime of art.
We are also delighted to be showcasing an elegant collection of sophisticated assemblages for which Edward Mackenzie is renowned.
We look forward to seeing you at this special celebration event.
